In this remedial project, completed in summer 1998, we rebuilt three heating systems, the hot water system supplying the kitchen and 12 guest rooms.

- Remedial action was taken to achieve a reliably working heating system with uniform heat distribution in the floor, starting from a boiler which was only functioning sporadically to fire an under-floor heating system which could not be adjusted hydraulically.
- Energy saving was achieved in the heating system of the conference building by hydraulic adjustments and control measures. The hot water system has now a special control and can supply 12 showers, even though the hot water tank is still too small.

On the ground floor of the old mill property, underfloor heating installed, radiators in the upper floors.

The background
From 1988 to 1993, the 'Obermühle' ®, a protected mill property, was carefully restored and rededicated with the support of the NRW Foundation. The work was completed by young people in a training program for restoration of historical monuments.The mill is to the north of Aachen in a region, parts of which are environmentally protected and are an attraction for walkers looking for relaxation.
2003 'Obermühle' ® changed hands. Part of it was sublet.
